SAO PAULO, Sept 1 (Reuters) - New York-based StarMedia
Network Inc. <STRM.O> said on Wednesday it is ,b>offering an
Internet access service in Brazil jointly with AT&T <T.N>, a
venture which it plans to extend soon to other major Latin
American nations.
Starmedia, one of the biggest Latin American Internet
destinations, said it will also provide Internet access in
Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Mexico by the end of the year.

AT&T will manage the network in Brazil and StarMedia has
the option to use AT&T's network throughout Latin America.
StarMedia CEO and chairman Fernando Espuelas declined to

"We want to be the leaders," he said. "We expect that over
time we are going to occupy the first place in Internet

In Brazil, StarMedia will go head-to-head with leading
access provider Universo Online (UOL) and also compete with
more than 400 smaller access companies.
