NEW YORK, Sep. 01 (Standard & Poor's) - Standard & Poor's reiterated its STARS ranking of (accumulate) on shares of Comverse Technology (CMVT). The company posted fiscal 2000 (Jan.) Q2 EPS of $0.52, excluding charges, vs. $0.36, $0.03 above the Wall Street mean estimate.

S&P analyst Mark Cavallone notes CMVT's sales were up 25% on demand for both enhanced service platforms and recording and monitoring systems. He says CMVT is seeing the benefits of wireless operators deploying services like voice-mail and text messaging. Cavallone also points out that CMVT's gross margins exceed 62% on higher repeat business and additional software content.
