Apple's G4 sparks new chip war By Janet Kornblum USA TODAY ...Apple chairman Steve Jobs unveiled a new chip here Tuesday he says will "toast" the fastest chip made by his chief competitor, Intel. ...Jobs said Apple's 500 megahertz (MHz) G4 - it also comes in 400 MHz and 450 MHz - is three times faster than Intel's 600 MHz Pentium III chip, the fastest available on the market today. Also Tuesday, Intel was touting two new faster Pentiums: a soon-to-be-marketed 700 MHz chip and an 800 MHz for later down the line. "We'll still toast it," Jobs said of Intel's 700 MHz. Analysts questioned the claims, noting that direct comparisons between the two systems can be misleading.
