Well, they were awarded patents to the packet switching technology that has become the standard. (The name eludes me know) I know that Ericson has to pay them (cents) for every cellular phone they sell, and after the latest lawsuit so does Motorola (I'm not 100% sure of this last one)

After these 2 heavyweights have fallen in line it is expected for the rest of the industry to comply too.

But what do I know?
