NEW YORK (AP) -- Six companies with large Internet businesses joined forces on Wednesday to try to boost consumer confidence in buying products and services over the World Wide Web.
The group, which includes Microsoft Corp. (MSFT: news, msgs), America Online Inc. (AOL: news, msgs), and IBM (IBM: news, msgs), plans to urge governments to reduce discrepancies between laws in the U.S. and abroad that may inhibit people from buying items over the Internet. It also will try to come up with a code of conduct to prevent unscrupulous behavior by Web retailers. The other members of the group, which is called the Electronic Commerce and Consumer Protection Group, are Dell Computer Corp. (DELL: news, msgs), Time Warner Inc. (TWX: news, msgs) and Visa U.S.A. |
