James and Twit... Windows has been and still is the best OS for most situations. Microsoft and B Gates did a great job of bringing the product forward and used great marketing like all good companies do. Whether Microsoft has now, or has had in the past (probably not so much in the future) a real monopoly, I'm not sure (although what is happening in the courts indicates many people believe they do). The problem is...once Microsoft gained the market share they did..85-90%... They began tying the latest new innovations developed to the windows os... This is when their 90% market share begins to look monopolistic... If Microsoft has a 90% share and their methods begin to prevent additional new innovation for fear of that innovation being hijacked and tied to the proprietary Windows, then that company, Microsoft, needs to be reigned in by the courts. This has been discussed to much in other threads... So lets not continue to address whether or not Microsoft has a monopolistic position. Otay??? Microsoft's real problem is, that with the fast networks of the future, a specialized OS won't be needed so much... Don't you two think a very good FREE office suite will be very tempting for mid to smaller size corporations, mid to low end computer makers and portals(with StarPortal)??? To bad Microsoft is already in the courts with the antitrust case. I bet they are tempted to try and prevent Computer manufactures from distributing StarOffice on computers with a Windows operating system. Do you think Microsoft should be allowed to do this??? The Microsoft conference rooms are heating up... what to do...what to do... ;-) Did anyone see or hear the Reggie interview??? Cheers, Roger
