Prices of 64Mb DRAM Chips Surpass US$9 Per Unit
September 2, 1999 (SEOUL) -- After reaching US$8 per unit last week, prices for 64Mb DRAM chips traded on the spot market surpassed US$9 per unit on Aug. 30.

According to Korea's semiconductor manufacturers, the memory chip prices continued an upbeat mood, and posted a record high of US$9.17 in the domestic spot market on Aug. 30. This is twice as high as prices seen two months ago, when the chip was once traded at US$4.66 on June 25.

The chip price hike is expected to bring mounting profits to domestic chip producers, market watchers forecasted. They cited Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world's largest memory chip producer, which now is expecting its net profits this year to top 3.5 trillion won (US$3 billion). (1,184.7 won = US$1)
