Weekly Jobless Claims = +4k to 289k
dol.gov In the week ending Aug. 28, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 289,000, an increase of 4,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 285,000. The 4-week moving average was 286,500, an increase of 2,000 from the previous week's revised average of 284,500.
Factory Orders for July = +2.1%
census.gov New orders for manufactured goods in July increased $7.3 billion or 2.1 percent to $358.5 billion, the Department of Commerce, Bureau of the Census reported today. This follows a 0.8 percent June increase and is the eleventh increase in the last fourteen months.
Q2 Productivity = +0.8%
stats.bls.gov The Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor today reported revised productivity data--as measured by output per hour of all persons--for the second quarter of 1999. The seasonally adjusted annual rates of productivity change in the second quarter were: 0.8 percent in the business sector and 0.6 percent in the nonfarm business sector.
Unit labor costs, which reflect changes in both hourly compensation and productivity, accelerated from a 1.1-percent rise in the first quarter of 1999 to a 4.5-percent growth rate in the second quarter.
