What would a company with the ability to identify sound, determine the direction, and determine the distance, be doing with CDPD. After all, this is the all pervasive means of sending data over cellular systems. Well, one of the big problems with cellular is locating the dead spots. See any connections for ZSON's new CDPD product?

Here's an example of eating up manpower to track down those dead spots.

The CDPD communications has worked quite well. Initially, Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile and VNS workers canvassed the target area (upper Manhattan) to check signal strength. In general, coverage was good, and individual cells were adjusted as needed in problem areas. VNS technical workers then followed nurses into patient's homes (mainly large apartment buildings) for four days to further verify coverage. More minor adjustments were made. Since then, nurses have been using the real application. It appears that the connection is good in 90% of the visits. The main problems occur in basement apartments and apartments on interior walls on the lower floors. The application is designed to store and forward the data to the central office later on when there is such a problem.
