Hi Joan -- glad you asked.
I think the numbers in your content analysis have a flaw. While there may have been only 11 "women" posting during the specified period, there were a goodly number of others in the "wannabe" camp.
I view this as a stronghold of women. While there are spirited debates galore on some subjects, woe is any male here who doesn't cow to the woman's line of thinking of ANY subject relating to women.
I have been slightly amused by the recent reference to PC here and what seems to be a prevailing view that little of that exists on feelies. IMO, any poster who steps outside PC lines on issues of interest to women on this thread is going to get HAMMERED. And it won't be just women doing the hammering.
So far, the only instance of unauthorized sister-speech I've seen was E's early stance on the perpetuation of humanity.
So far, I have noted only one woman here (hate to paint a bulls-eye by naming names) who perhaps has an interest in men who are not 100 percent cuddly. Actually, this probably not a fair comment -- it's possible many feelie women would be floored if their husband or boyfriend started posting here.
There is plenty of evidence (just in the past few weeks) of the male sex being stereotyped and trashed here. The type of comments that would not be tolerated for one second if referring to women.
None of this is meant to suggest that all females here are the same. Some are brilliant, some are hilarious, some are independent, some only echo the comments of others, some are sexy, some are wise, some are bitter and dry.
Not suggesting the slightest change in the thread. Interesting to pop in once in awhile and offer the "party-crashing-asshole point of view." No personal offense to anyone ever intended -- but, I do hate a sloppy argument, especially from someone who knows better.
Unrelated closing thought on male single parents. Speaking from direct personal experience, the offspring don't all end up menacing society.
I raised a son and daughter through high school. Near 4.0 students, star athletes, well-liked by peers and teachers. Multiple degrees from best universities. Son now teaching chem. and serving as Asst Principal at prestigious prep school (lack of "credential" would prevent him from teaching in a public school in his state - despite critical shortage of even marginally qualified science instructors); daughter among the Seriously Titled in Corporate America. Both have wonderful families. Best of all, we're still in touch several times a day. Not claiming I was great single parent -- I'll settle for "just lucky" and thank God for it every day.
I'm glad when there are men and women in any discussion but believe strongly that truly civilized discussions among just men or just women are the rule rather than the exception.
Well, time for some work on my vocabulary. **** dictionaries -- I'm headed for the golf course.
Best regards,
