1) AOL did magazine marketing more than anyone else. They might have even pioneered it.

1.5) You still have to pay for the media.

2)Selling to comp. enthusiasts is preaching to the choir. With just a 1 minute download, these people would have downloaded the app several times already.

That perceived value bit only works on novices, and less and less novices read those trade mags.
