SUNW paid a BIG number for StarDivision. That's why they didn't announce it Tuesday. Remember, Mr. Boerries, the founder of Star Division had been working on this productivity suite for 15 years. He had a software product, StarOffice 5.1, that he could have released in the same way SUNW did, or partner with a company like IBM or another. He went with SUNW because he new it was a perfect fit in SUNW's business model and he was also offered a phenominal sum of money in the form of SUNW stock. I speculate the cost of acquiring Star Division was well over $950 Mln. What ever was paid, Scott McNealy and his team are not "stupid". He figured and projected every penny he would earn from the purchase.

Look at the stock price alone! It rose over 5 points alone since the announcement. SUNW has "currency" in its stock. What do you think?
