Ah yes... John Carter of Mars books... and nickle Cokes bought from the machine that I discovered in a laundromat down the street from home...seemed sort of "amazing" to find that there was a Coke machine so close to our house. I only told a couple of friends about it and we kept it as our "cool" secret. The bottles were those short little greenish-coloured glass ones.

And the Sputnik... yep... my Dad and I used to sit out on the lawn and watch for it. One night he took me to the observatory at the local university to see the moon. I was crazy about "Outer Space". I think it started when I used to listen to my favourite record... "Tom & Jerry Go To The Moon". (BTW, I'm still pretty "moon crazy" and spend plenty of summer nights out on the lawn checking it out with my little telescope).

Favourite toy of that period.... little plastic "dart bombs" that you put a piece of those cap-gun paper caps inside of and then threw against walls to make a bang...

ah...those were the days...;-}>
