I understand that this typical, seasonally slower for broker stocks, and rate hikes usually aren't good for financials

The rate hikes may be part of the key. The seasonality is not an issue since I am comparing volume during the same time last year. Volume is only up about 2%. The last few years volume has increased 15% I believe.

What's been working well for me in this type of market is buying mid and small caps with excellent growth ahead, i'm
staying away from Large caps, Spot good names and buying them on or under there monthly or weekly Linear trend
lines is working well for me.

I have not traded a lot lately. My writing of covered calls has worked well except I lost a lot of upside in INTC last month.

Which mid and small caps are you comtemplating?

Glenn
