lauri-

I'm using an IBM ThinkPad iSeries that I bought about 6 months ago and I have been nothing but happy with it. I got it at my local CompUSA for $1600 and it has a 300mhz PentiumI but I think they now come with a 366 Celeron for the same price. The only change I've made to it was to add an additional 64 megs of RAM on top of the 32 it came with. The processor speed is more than adequate but ample RAM is a necessity. For a teen you'll probably want to shell out the extra couple hundred dollars for an extended warranty on the LCD display. Overall, $2000 should be a good price range and for the maximum dependability/reliability stick with one of the well established manufacturers.
