One point that I might want to challenge the manual on, however, is the fact that many ebusinesses are going after process patents as a new way to protect their unique fulfillment value proposition to the customer. So though Moore suggests that Godzilla would be a Market Leader with ***NO proprietary architecture***, I suggest that Godzilla might have proprietary *PROCESSES* that actually allow it to create switching costs.

As an example, if DELL could patent enough of its production and assembly processes (which they've already started doing) to the point where they could develop a model in which they set the new defacto standard for fulfillment and their competition is prevented from matching them, then some might want to argue that they are a Godzilla in the making from an "ebusiness" perspective (though not from a computer OEM perspective).

Lame example, but I think it makes the point.

Curious to any thoughts on this...
