Clintons To Buy New York House For $1.7 Million
By Randall Mikkelsen

AUBURN, N.Y. (Reuters) - President Clinton and first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton entered a $1.7 million contract Thursday to buy a New York house that will give Mrs. Clinton residency in the state for a possible Senate race, the White House said.

The five-bedroom Georgian Colonial-style home -- painted white -- is located in Chappaqua, in the leafy Westchester County suburbs of New York City. The Clintons toured the 100-year-old house Saturday during a summer vacation in New York that ends Friday.

They will pay $350,000 down, just over 20 percent, out of the family's blind trust, the White House said.

They will borrow $1.35 million from Bankers Trust Company. Democratic party fund-raiser Terry McAuliffe, with whom President Clinton was golfing Thursday, will co-sign the loan to guarantee payment.
