Do y'all remember the SLA? The Symbionese Liberation Army? I have a front page of the LA Times May 18, 1974, and their "suspected hideout" in South Central ended similarly to Mt. Carmel. 500 police attacked 5 "occupants" fired "thousands of rounds" in a two hour gun battle. The house and houses next door caught fire and were "burned to their foundations." "No one was able to say exactly what caused the fire in the house, but officers believed that it was set by the tear gas canisters fired through the windows."

"All five bodies were burned beyond recognition near the rear of the house and police were unable to say whether they were members of the SLA." Two were women.

"Flak-jacketed members of the LAPD, the FBI, the California Highway Patrol and the Sheriff's Department, acting on a tip, mounted the huge raid against the one-story...house..."
"The battle was carried live on television."

The more things change, the more they stay the same...

nite all.
