GlobeSpan's Titanium DMT Chipsets First to Add ANSI-Endorsed TR-59 RADSL Capability; ANSI Committee T1 Approves TR-59-Based RADSL as a DSL Broadband Access Method

Aug. 31, 1999--GlobeSpan (NASDAQ: GSPN), a leading worldwide developer of programmable digital subscriber line (DSL) chipsets, today announced that its Titanium(TM) ADSL chipsets, which already support G.lite (G.992.2) and G.DMT (G.992.1, T1.413 Issue 2) standards, now also support RADSL applications compatible with Technical Report 59 (TR-59). TR-59, recently approved by Committee T1 of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), provides industry acceptance of an ADSL data access method known as single-carrier RADSL (Rate Adaptive DSL).

With GlobeSpan's highly programmable Titanium chipsets, DSL equipment manufacturers who design equipment for RADSL applications can also use the same basic design for G.lite and G.DMT ADSL applications by performing simple software downloads that reprogram the chipsets. This minimizes the R&D effort, accelerates time-to-market, and maximizes the market opportunities that can be addressed. Furthermore, end users who purchase customer premises equipment (CPE) incorporating GlobeSpan's Titanium chipsets can now have a DSL modem that operates widely with either RADSL or ADSL DSLAMs.

About GlobeSpan

GlobeSpan, Inc. is a leading worldwide developer of advanced digital subscriber line (DSL) integrated circuits, which enable high-speed data transmission over the existing network of copper wire telephone lines at rates over 100 times faster than today's commonly deployed 56 kilobit modem technologies. Both Cahners In-Stat and Dataquest, two highly respected market research organizations, have ranked GlobeSpan the number one company in DSL chipset shipments for 1998. During 1999, Cisco Systems, Inc., Intel Corporation and US West, Inc. all made equity investments in GlobeSpan.

GlobeSpan has leveraged six years of field experience in implementing DSL technology to successfully bring proven DSL chipset solutions to market. The company's core engineering team includes several individuals who were early developers of DSL technology at AT&T Bell Labs. GlobeSpan offers a broad suite of DSL solutions, including ADSL, RADSL, HDSL, HDSL2, SDSL and MSDSL chipsets. To date, the company has shipped more than one million DSL chipsets, representing a significant share of this emerging market, to a customer base of more than 100 DSL equipment manufacturers.
