Sunray To Rise Next Wednesday
(09/02/99, 6:02 p.m. ET)
By Joseph F. Kovar, Computer Reseller News

Sun Microsystems is expected to unveil its latest
thin client, the Sunray Enterprise Appliance, next
Wednesday in New York.

The Sunray Enterprise Appliance, code named
Corona, is expected to run the Solaris operating
system natively. It also is expected to run Windows
NT applications using Solaris PCNetLink technology
said several sources familiar with Sun's plans.

Ed Zander, president of Sun, will preside at the
event that will also serve to introduce the company's
new consulting service headed by vice president
Mark Bauhaus.

The new thin clients will also have access to the Star
Office desktop-productivity suite Sun bought along
with Star Division earlier this week, said the source.

Unlike Sun's JavaStation, which uses the distributed
client model and depends on Java client-side
applications that have yet to appear, none of the logic
is present on the Sunray itself, said another source.
For instance, the rendering of the GUI on Sunray's
screen is the result of pixels sent over the network,
said the source. ...>>

Got to buy one,
