Re: the Dell OptiPlex product line.

We've already seen the web pages announcing the Dell Optiplex GX200 and GX300 products with RDRAM. The Optiplex line is Dell's "Managed PC" line, which means it's targeted at corporate environments where the PC is on a LAN and a central MIS group can monitor performance, get notification of potential system failures, check for viruses, etc. (the Bears enjoyed making fun of that one, but the "managed PC" business is a huge business, targeted by all of the major vendors)

I just saw an IDC report yesterday that showed that the Optiplex product line accounts for about 60% of the total units that Dell ships. It's very consistent for the last 6 quarters at least. It surprised me because I thought the Dimension line was their best seller. This made me feel even better about seeing RDRAM in the Optiplex line -- I thought the Optiplex line was a smaller volume product line.

FWIW,

Dave
