In July Chambers said:

zdnet.com

"In future network architectures, the dominant network application protocol will be IP, with underlying transport layer of ATM technology or pure optical transport of IP directly across optical circuits.

Then he said: " It is going to be IP/ATM world.
Circuit switched is dead."

Obviously he is going both way, not knowing which one is valid, or just trying to confuse everybody so he can gain time to develop IP/ATM.
In meantime he is saying we think ATM is dead, depending when he talks.
CSCO without doubt has outstanding record to follow and execute but has equally lousy record to invent and foresee trend, and real customer(BIG SERVICE PROVIDERS)need-see ION.
Nobody can denied NN leadership in foreseen trend.
With Alan in charge when the ship is going,I think IP/ATM will win.It is real, not dream.
