"there are many many doctors, scientists and every one else that have said life begins at conception"

Thanks for making my point, Dan. This is the point of contention that all the debate (and your analogy) hinge upon. There is such a huge spread of opinion about this that it can not be considered as cut and dry as someone getting run over by a car.

On an individual level it certainly can be that cut and dry, so I'll apologize for calling you an idiot because to you it may seem a valid analogy. But, universally, the analogy doesn't hold true due to the differing viewpoints of timing.

You can't legislate an atheist to believe in God and you can't legislate someone to believe life begins at conception or birth or anywhere in between. We keep government out of religion (not as much as we should - and religion out of government for that matter - once again, not as much as we should) and we should also keep government out of abortion. It is one of those cases that are not so cut and dry (on an amalgamated level) as to say the fetus got ran over at the intersection because there was no stoplight.
