A very liberal college professor posed this question to me, oh, 5 years ago, about helping other countries in their times of need. She made a good point, referring to our decision to stay out of WWII prior to the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Many people felt the way you do now about helping back then. The country wanted to remain neutral, isolationist. We know what happened after that.

China has already stolen secrets from us, they are now a potential threat, and just because we sit back and let them do what they will with Taiwan doesn't mean that when they are done there they'll be all happy and content. I'm not saying this WILL happen, ofcourse, just something to take into consideration.
