Saddest story of all -- about 8 years ago was on a cruise and this man we met told us to buy ORCL (it was $6) and my husband said, we'll watch it when we get back to the states. It ran to $14 and my husband said now it's too late. Then came back to $9 and my husband said "obviously it's tanking, not going to buy it now". Then it ran to $18 -- again, not going to chase it we'll buy on the sell off. It sold off to $12 and again "too late, we missed the boat, it already ran" ... then news came out and overnight it went over 20 - then another 10, etc. - split, split again, split again --- then I bought it at 40 - market going down, sold it at 42 (only 100 shares, no biggie) only to have it run to over 60 and split yet again - this time a 3 for 2 instead of the norm (2 for 1). So, 8 years later and about 4 or 5 splits after the fact, I have 100 shares bought around 37.
Moral of the story -- never listen to your husband!!!
