Standard poodles are indeed quite intelligent and their coats make them good water dogs, used in retrieving. Almost the entire list of the 10 most intelligent dogs appear to be "working" breeds. Looks like humans have actually figured out which dogs are smartest and have used them to their advantage.<bg> My daughter recently bought a dobie and that dog is so smart it's scary. <edit> I checked back, and truedog listed what he considered "nuisance" dogs. I'm assuming he considers them nuisances since his perception is they serve no good "purpose". I'm sure truedog will correct me if I'm wrong. But if that is his contention, then he shouldn't necessarily include the standard poodle, a working breed.
