The "Hollow-Earth" concept was well known even in Elizabethan times in England in the 1500s.

Francis Bacon wrote about it. But according to him, we are living on the inside of a hollow sphere. That idea is beyond me. Perhaps he was referring to something else in a cryptic way. That is likely as learned people in his time had the habit of "veiling" their communications so that they could only be understood by the initiated.

As for the sightings of mammoth creatures in the far north and far south close to the polar regions, I believe the sightings might be due to hallucinations of the explorers. Hallucinations were often experienced by explorers who ate polar bear liver and meat when they were desperately short of food. Present day explorers did not hallucinate as they were regularly supplied with air-dropped food.

The warm waters described by 19th century explorers were due to warm water currents flowing into those frigid zones all in accordance with natural movements arising from differences in temperatures, densities, rotation of Earth etc. The Gulf Stream Drift, for example, brings warmth and "balminess" to far northern zones over Europe. Likewise, warm water currents flow into the Beaufort Sea and arctic regions. And ditto for the Antarctic regions.
