<<At the same time that many conservatives say that Regan strived to shrink the national debt>>

It's true that Donald Regan was budget chief at the time. But surely you're referring to President Ronald Reagan, who submitted budgets designed to protect this country against the impending World War III threat and to restore our economy to a prosperous status. As you can see, he succeeded beyond even anyone's imagination on both counts.

<<...over the objections of a liberal congress, the facts do not seem to support that scenario. The historical record shows that over his presidency, Regan asked for $16.1 billion dollars more in spending than was passd by Congress.>>

What "facts" might those be? Do you have a cite? It was my recollection that congress increased each of Reagan's budgets. Also, are we really debating about 16 billion dollars over 8 years? $2 billion a year on a budget of more than $1 trillion? That's less than two-tenths of one percent of the budget. Your college savings fund probably increased more than that today alone.

You can rest peacefully tonight because of Ronald Reagan. Be thankful for what you have.
