Do you think your living quarters were there in 1492, or did someone have to cut some trees to clear the lot? Where does your daddy work? Do you think his place of employment was there in 1492? Does he drive through a forest to get to work, or does he use a road? Do you realize that your 250M acres amounts to only 8% of the US land mass? You are hereby pardoned if you didn't know how frugal and horticulturally conscious your forefathers were in building this country's infrastructure of 20,000 cities, 100,000,000 houses, 7,000,000 businesses and countless millions of roads.
