I suppose it depends on where one thinks the study is. Physics is the paradigmatic science not only because it lends itself to rigor, but also because it is the most advanced science. We do not expect equal rigor out of biology, for example, nor do we expect equal development, since the major breakthroughs awaited the 19th and 20th century. My view is that economics is a legitimate social science that is still in an early stage of development....
