Re: Basically in Q4 AMD will sell every Athlon they make and Intel will sell every cumine they produce

It looks like there will be enough Rambus available to sell less than 1 million Rambus equipped PCs in Q4. If the MTH gets the same reputation as the cacheless Celeron, it may limit Coppermine sales until Rambus ramps up or a true PC100 (or PC133) alternative chipset is offered.

Looking at the leaked Dell specs, they were calling for 356MHZ Rambus (PC700). Though they didn't specify the latency of the RIMMS, it would have to be 45 to 53ns. The predictions of modestly enhanced performance from Rambus in real world apps are all predicated on the 40ns PC800 parts being available - and that is evidently not the case. Tests of shipping machines in Q4 and 1H will likely show mediocre performance from Coppermine due to limits of the available Rambus - and that may limit sales.

Rambus constraints should gradually decrease during 1H 2000 but may continue to be a major factor.

What kind of numbers are you expecting for Coppermine in Q4?
