SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The world's largest
supplier of graphics, video and multimedia accelerators(1) S3(R)
Incorporated (Nasdaq: SIII) announced today that S3's ViRGE/GX(TM)
multimedia accelerator powers STB Systems(R) (Nasdaq: STBI) newly
shipping Nitro(TM) 3D board. Combining a 3X increase in 3D performance
over first-generation 3D accelerators with advanced 2D and video
acceleration, the ViRGE/GX accelerator provides the speed, resolution
and 3D realism that end-users require to fully experience today's most
popular applications.

S3's ViRGE/GX Accelerator
Based on the S3d(R) architecture, the ViRGE/GX accelerator

the ViRGE family -- include SmartFilter technology for higher
performance and higher quality texture mapping; and a parallel
processing perspective engine for increased throughput. When combined
with ViRGE capabilities such as MIP mapping and tri-linear filtering,
transparency, atmospheric effects and Z-buffering, the ViRGE/GX
accelerator delivers the next level of 3D acceleration required for
today's mainstream PC market.
STB's Nitro 3D
STB's Nitro 3D delivers high-end 2D/3D digital video playback with
ultra-high bandwidth video memory for optimum resolutions and refresh
rates and up to 16.7 million colors for photo-realistic images. Retail
versions of the NITRO 3D will ship with an assortment of titles
including HyperBlade(TM), MechWarrior(R) 2: Mercenaries(TM), Spycraft:
The Great Game(R) and the hot new title Interstate '76(TM), all from
Activision, in addition to WIRL by VREAM and a limited version of
Simply 3D from Micrografx.
