Don't discount the 6x86 chip from Cyrix. It is definitely a threat to the Pentium and will be in high volume production next quarter. It will be produced by IBM and other Cyrix partners could also begin producing it in 1996. This includes TI and SGS Thompson.

I don't believe that it or any other chip will displace the Pentium because Intel is the only company with the production capacity to meet the demand in the market. However, it could force Intel to slash prices to sell out their production. Since virtually all their costs are fixed lower prices come right off their bottom line.

AMD will eventually release Pentium competitors in volume. They may be late to market and they may not be the best available but it will force some serious price cutting.
