Aloha- I'm a local from Kauai and my family owns and operates
a Bed & Breakfast and I manage the vacation rental. Both homes sit on a eight acre tropical flower plantation with awesome mountain waterfall views , little streams. The property has been very popular with honeymooners and is also used for wedding & film locations. You can check it out at: planet-hawaii.com
the B&B site is: hoohana.aloha.net
"this site is being upgraded with new pictures at this time".
Anyway you can e-mail me at kahuna@aloha.net for more info on Kauai things to do. Even if you don't stay with us I may beable to refer you to a place in your price range and I know what most of the places look like inside & out. As for interisland air fare what we pay here for non resident on Hawaiian or Aloha air is $49 to $52 dollars. This is through a travel agents. If you buy at the gate it's higher. It's best to find the FLY / DRIVE deal where you get round trip inter island fare and a car, some with a one day free rental. This will be your cheapest deal I called today for a guest and the travel agent told me it was $210 (round trip plus economy car with one free day rental on the car.)
As for Poipu it's the desert side of the island, lots of resorts and condos side by side. It's nice to visit, go to the beach, a few really nice restaurants but over all not very pretty meaning (lush & green) East to North side is the most beautiful and tropical. If you have a week on Kauai I would suggest staying in Poipu for a few nights then staying somewhere on the North or East side of the Island to get a flavor of both.
If you have any questions e-mail me at kahuna@aloha.net

Good Luck,
Dejon Ka'opio
