Kenith - <Also, aren't you on the 0.25um guy? How would you know so much about the scaling of 0.18um and the Coppermine? >

I was .25, I have been .18 for the last 3 years, will be .13 shortly.

<How would you know so much about the scaling of 0.18um and the Coppermine? This product has a redesigned/improved core.>

I am not a designer. However, the division I work for has an integral design group, whose most recent high profile projects were Deschuttes and Coppermine. They are right upstairs from us fab centric folks, and work for the same Development Director. We are one. I do have some friends that work up there. I ask them stuff when I can, and try to form my own opinion. Again, Intel Execs plainly said they were happy with the mileage Intel is getting out of the PIII core. I am just reiterating their stance. Again, I am sorry I can't provide more specifics. You'll just have to take my word for it, or not. There is also the possibility they and I are wrong, but I sure hope not.

<Please note that I am not trying to pick on you. I am just tire of "I know something but I can't tell..." thingy. To be impartial, this includes everyone else.>

I don't intend to do that, although I can see sometimes it may come across that way.

Everything I would say was said in plain English at IDF. In a way I am only reiterating what they said. Sorry I can't be any more specific than they were. However, relaying confidential data publicly is where Intel surely draws the line. However, especially relative to .18 and Coppermine, I usually don't post something unless I also personally believe it. Other aspects of Intel's business are more purely my opinion, as they fall outside my expertise (whatever that may be :-).

I worry about the perception of posting as an employee, and coming across like "I know something and you don't." I don't like that perception, and that is not why I post on this board. I enjoy the debate, and if I see what I perceive as error, or at least not enough consideration to an aspect, I try to get across my point of view within the confines of sound judgment relative to posting as an employee. I may not do this forever either. I am at a point now where I need to consider if I am going to renew my SI membership. I signed up for a six month trial, and it's almost up.
Regardless, I have had a blast, and I hope sometimes I present stuff of value relative to this business. I have also learned quite a bit about various other aspects of Intel's business, which I appreciate the input from you all in that regard. I find the various aspects of the business and the competition personally fascinating. I could probably just monitor the thread and do the same. I did make the decision to start posting, for better or worse. I hope for the most part it comes out OK for all concerned.
