And, they are not as expensive either. So, there is a tradeoff.

<I doubt that the engineers at VIA are dumb, its just that there are tricks that can be done in the chipset if you know the innards of the CPU. Hopefully, the Athlon chipsets will have this "inside knowledge" advantage.>

I don't about "dumb"-ness but it might just be an issue of learning curve. Intel has more experience with all the aspects of PC performance than probably anyone else in the business. VIA definitely seems to have closed the gap but, nevertheless, I find the performance disparities fascinating.
