Curious, on SI hardly anyone ever talks about "moderates." Such political discussion as there is tends to view the world in terms of a culture war, conservatives vs. liberals. More sophisticated analyses (like yours) focus on the shades of difference among "conservatives" or "liberals."

Yet, in real life, the "moderates" probably outnumber both self-described conservatives and self-described liberals, of whatever stripe. A new version of the Silent Majority, perhaps?
