Oh, doubtless most people are non- ideological and pragmatic, and ambivalent about many issues. That is one of the things that some of the "red- meaters" will not understand: without someone like Reagan who could stick to his conservative guns on important matters, but reach out to moderates, conservatism will fail as an electoral force. Even within the Republican caucus in the House, Newt had the good sense to reach out to moderate Republicans, and keep cordial relations with their leaders, like Jim Leach of Iowa, or our majority would have meant little....
