Keven; DVI is short for Dollar Volume Index,
It's a creation I came up with using the most popular stocks
traded and weighting them by Dollars Traded instead of market
cap using 3 month Volume X Price = Dollars traded.
---------------
A composite of about 10 of the most popular in any index can be compared to the index itself. It's real good in the way it
signals changes, more often than not ahead of the main index.
But it takes getting use to, and you have to make and adjust
your own.

The above is a search that will bring up a good many posts on it
in this MDA thread , as well as Jim's Nasdaq 100 thread,
you can skip the other threads.
