Re: Rambus revenue streams....

>sep 26 intel announces camino chipset for rambus.
That supports both SDRAM (with MTH) and Rambus

>sep 27 dell announces rambus pc's for sale.
At a price premium for its performance due to Rambus

>oct 25 intel announces coppermine.
Coppermine has been pre-announced so often it's making AMD jealous - this isn't news. Did you mean Coppermine ships on this date?

>oct 26 an array of rambus pc systems will be announced by all major oem's.
They may be rambus capable, but there won't be too many shipping with rambus not unless or until prodution has increased by quite a bit.

>late this year...intel announces a rambus server chip.
Intel may have given up on the rambus server chipset - stability problems with rambus and the people who buy servers are too knowledgeable to fall for the rambus snow job.

>mid-next year...rambus is firmly established.
Mid next year, rambus fades away as DDR and VC DRAM dominante RAM sales.

>mid-next year...intel releases rambus laptop chipset. intel said no pc133 for laptops. this transition will be direct from sdram 100 to rdram.
Rambus uses more power and dissipates more heat than SDRAM, especially VC SDRAM. Rambus in notebooks is a long shot.

>end of next year...intel announces timna. the rmbs enabled chipset for low-end systems.
Rambus makes no sense for an entry level system, if timna uses rambus, its sales will be very limited - complete via PC133 based integrated systems will sell for the price of the rambus memory.

>mid 2001...sdram is gone. rambus is in 100% of intel systems.
late 2000... rambus is gone. A mix of DDR 266, PC133 and PC200 is used where each is the perfect match for the needs of the particular system.
