are splits always positive?

from a naive point of view it affects market cap, float, volatility and marketing/salability of a stock

my sense that splits are a good way to take advantage of a bull market and feed into current IPO frenzy, apart from traditional advantages

if absorbed proportionatly by the same current shareholder 'makeup' there could be little price pattern changes, but if more small buyers come in or institutions, patterns (resistance levels, etc...) change

regards,
ynot ;)
