Gordon & Tomato:

<The basic things an "O" blood type gives up eating are wheat products, dairy products, potatoes, and corn products>

Through a variety of anecdotes my current frame of mind is that most Northern and Western Europeans shouldn't be eating dairy or "gluten" [most grains] at all..., but a more 'hunter gatherer' diet as you stated. On top of that I believe that years of this diet may have caused a lot of people 'gut' problems [leaky gut syndrome?] which can create all sorts of problems stemming from this one cause... most of them "autoimmune", but also the tired, foggy 'cronic fatigue' eveyones talking about [which is yeast overgrowth].

Current thinking as far as I can figure out: On top of what you're recommending, go on an anti-yeast diet and nystatin [large molecule anti-fungal] for 9 months till you get that cleaned out and your gut comes back. Then continue on with the 'right for type' diet. From my experience this means you can kiss grocery stores goodbye except for the produce and meat section... it also means chosing good restaraunts you can go to all the time and they can get to know you and be helpful and appreciate your business.

"The Yeast Connection" is a popular book explaining all that stuff, and Dr. Bruce Semon, a Psychiatrist in Glendale, Wisconsin has a new "anti-yeast" cookbook out, but I think it's privately published. Get his number from info and order the book directly from him. He's formerly of the NCI, and done his own stuff due to family involvement... this is related to the current autism protocal as well, for those interested. He believes yeast may be implicated in ADD and all sorts of autoimmune problems.

Personal anecdotes... I went on the anti-yeast diet for family reasons not related to my own health... never had any "major problems" of my own. It is now 4 months later [remember no dairy/gluten either] and I've lost 25 pounds, stopped grinding my teeth at night, quite coffee without trying [didn't need it in the morning anymore! Lost my taste for it], have MUCH more energy... never feel tired during the day, automatically increased my morning workout without trying, not nearly as forgetful as previously, and no longer eat "compulsively".

I had made a couple of observations about myself over the 10 years since about age 30 before:

1.) my metabolism had downshifted 2-3 times, and that's why I couldn't do what I used to running, skiing, etc... as well as why I was 'naturally gaining weight'... doesn't everyone?
2.) I have a tendancy to have a "compulsive" or addictive personality, 'like my mother'.

This has turned out to be total crap... and apparently related to my diet. Don't know about back problems.. but it's my understanding that allergies can be related to immune system overload and definitely related to diet... a bad one of which has to be 'fought off' by the body.

DAK

Oh, yea.. I recommend "Total Wellness" by Joseph Pizzorno, N.D. as well, great book.
