I think I am a militant pragmatist- I REALLY like that term, btw- which is why I wage a constant war against ideologues. But it would be hard to coalition build, because as a pragmatist one has to look at things issue by issue, and that takes a lot longer than simply swallowing a party line whole. It is easier to be a reactionary pragmatist- and simply wait for someone to go too far, and then define the limits of "too farness". It is much more difficult to decide what those limits are in every case, when there is no one promoting an extreme viewpoint- one almost has an infinite set of limits one could set on various issues.
