Jon, The SVC's are applicable in a connection-oriented (eg ATM) network. Yes, the movement is to IP networks, but we are not there (not even for voice, totally) yet due to latency, cost, bandwidth, etc. Those issues go away, substantially, in a private network, assuming one has the dollars for the equipment.
Now, the issue for enterprises (the average individual consumer could not afford the technology at this point for all video uses) is what to buy now, assuming that they would like some/all of the video functionality today, yet we do no know exactly what network standard will ultimately emerge or when it will emerge.
FVC's solution they call "future proof" as it can switch from one standard to another.
I've answered one of the questions: yes, FVC does have SVC technology (and it is being used). I think people are missing what FVCX really has and it is undervalued.
If FVCX is supplying CSCO (or aiding CSCO), people likely will ignore everything else about FVCX and bid it up solely b/c of a relationship with CSCO. I don't know if that runor is true, so will place no value on it. If anything, it may cause people to look at FVCX and notice the technolgy they have. |
