David, so where are the real news? All one has to look at is their annual report, not so much for the numbers in it, but front article - they are pushing their Webspeed product which has to compete in a very crowded market while pushing their bread and butter products that got them where they are, er ... they were couple years ago, that is the database and their 4GL development product. I personally think that the main man, Joe, has to go and soon. I heard this tale that before the MSFT rumors came to the surface, they were really trying to acquire PRGS for its DB strength and to incorporate into new release of SQL Server, but Joe allegedly got too greedy and MSFT said no thanks. Now, the new SQL Server coming out will have the features to compete effectively at the enterprise level and without help of PRGS.
Maybe that's on of the reasons PRGS puts their highest priority on the Webspeed. I still don't see their long term vision clearly - are they going to be an Internet co. or the DB company? 'Cause they are not knocking my socks off by trying to be both. Just my frustrating $.02 worth.
