Teflon: Actually the news has been positive. SUNW would not have embarked on this path had they thought that they were going to prevail in court. AOL's free PC thing also makes a case in the same point. If these guys thought that they were going to have their way over MSFT in court they would have kept their powder dry and would not have announced these initiatives. These initiatives demonstrate that their is too fluid a market in technology to define monopolies and that what may appear as monopoly today will disappear as so much smoke at the click of an innovation. No one has the monopoly on brains and ideas. Jackson is still digesting what is going on and I imagine his indigestion vis-a-vis his initial anti MSFT posture is getting worse. It would appear that unless Jackson dismisses the case with a few mean words for MSFT's aggressive tactics he will once again be embarrassed by future developments in the software arena and the Appellate Court as well. As I have maintained all along this suit is a non event.

If Sun is going to give away an MSFT look alike in the server and provide free clients via NSCP Navigator they further demonstrate and endorse the MSFT concept of imbedding a client in an OS as the two become rather indistinguishable when operating in tandem; whether it be on the desktop or with a server or with both. One can see from MSFT Money 2000 that this is definitely the direction in which MSFT is heading (See how it interacts with Money Central). You and I may want to draw some items from the net and a common public server but their is much information that we wish to store and manipulate privately and locally. It would seem to me that MSFT can play this game better than anyone if SUNW really wishes to go toe to toe. Even after the most recent run up MSFT really still is a value and will be the defining force in computing for the next 5-10 years as they are truly just getting underway. If you look at Money Central and Money 2000 you will begin to see the vision MSFT has. I wouldn't be surprised if they do not become the front end of many brokerage/banking firms and the back end as well. People talk about the postman (see Raging Bull) of the future and MSFT is in the thick of that with Hot Mail
There is no other travel service as well thought out as Expedia. Someone mentioned that MSFT might backpedal on CarPoint and this only served to bring howls of despair by those that use CarPoint to great effect. These are just a tiny few examples of how MSFT will become even a greater force tomorrow than it is today. These fellows don't spend their time complaining to congress about their adversaries they just spend their time planning on how to best them. Upward and Onward wit Billy the Geek. JFD
