JC, After a bit of hunting I found a lead to my previous question on VxWorks usage in cell phones. The following is from the QCOM frequently asked questions page. The last question addresses the RTOS, I included others which some may consider OT. . . <<MSM3000 Questions and Answers Q: What are the key features of the MSM3000? A: The MSM3000 is a next generation MSM device that provides the basic functionality of an MSM2300 with the following enhancements: Integrated ARM7TDMI microprocessor which provides lower power and higher performance than the MSM2300 I186 core. A higher performance microprocessor platform enables easy support of future standards and application demands. Low Power Sleep Controller increases phone standby time up to 200 hours using an 800 mAH battery. Phase 1 High Data Rate Support (HDR), supports 8 co-channel demod RS1 (76.8 kbps) and 6 co-channel demod RS2 (86.4 kbps) operation. Slotted FM Mode improves AMPS stand-by time. Serial bus interface (SBI), simplifies handset design with easy support for control of RF/IF devices. Voice Recognition allows voice control hands free operation of the mobile handset. Multiple languages are supported (i.e. English, Korean and Japanese.) Q: Why was the decision made to move from the I186 to the ARM? A: The ARM microprocessor provides higher performance, lower power, smaller core size (lower cost) and requires smaller code size (80% of I186) than the I186. Q: Will the same RTOS with the MSM2300 be used with the MSM3000? Will other RTOS by supported? A: We are currently looking at offering REX (QUALCOMM Proprietary) and one more RTOS for the MSM3000.
