Gary, why do it? Because it makes good business sense. Royalties to pop artists often run in the millions, overall profit margins on popular music tend to get squeezed, and because popular music tends to lose its popularity over time, except in rare instances such as the Beetles, classical music has always been attractive: The music retains its popularity longer, and the fees to the artists are much less, particularly if it is an older recording where both composer and recording artists are dead. Get kids hooked on Mozart and the record companies will thrive!
