Well, you are right, Cadence is still using UNIX as their main Platform for CAD tools up to today. Do you know what is their plans about mercede + NT based platform ? Pls do not be surprised when you hear of it !!!! Think about it, NT will be a popular OS, If any of Cadence's competitors decide to port their CAD tools onto Mercede + NT based stations, which will be cheaper but with similar performance, then what Cadence will do ? NT will be a popular OS and will bring up the market for Mercede based stations, which means Mercede based stations will be with a business model of big volume + low price but similar performance , I do not think SUN can compete in that market , especially thinking about the fact that SUNW is a one product company. What is more is SUNW is not conducting a business model of free software, So with the loss of hardware business, and no revenues for software business, how can SUNW survive in this market ?
I see SUNW to be that next CPQ , just ready to be dumpped to the drain !!!
