Can you give me particulars on this total lack of registration? I've been to gun shows in three states over the last ten years. ALL sales there were handled in accordance with State law. That means nowadays ... find a dealer to do the paperwork and hold the gun while the ten-day wait runs.
I submit that criminals get their guns the old-fashioned way ... they steal them. What amazes me is the amount of legislative pressure on law abiding gun owners and dealers. I haven't heard ONE legislative proposal for punishing anybody caught using a stolen gun. Guns are serialized ... tracing them is routine for the FBI.
My guess is that there is much less political hay in a law like that than a big juicy gun grab. Even though in my ever so subjective opinion the problem has less to do with guns and more to do with crime and punishment in the USA.

Imo the "total lack of regulation" malarkey is raw garbage the media have been allowing to spread by benign neglect - with the blessing of those who want to make big political hay at the expense of law abiding gun owner-operators.

FWIW I know what you mean about Gray's Republican opponent ... we can't win. We either get an illiberal with regard to our property or our bodies. And that's "illiberal" in the old sense ... somebody who doesn't value civil liberties, including but not limited to the right to keep&bear arms or to decide what goes on inside our own bodies.

I'd vote Libertarian if those cats didn't have their heads up their collective asses re environmental issues.
